How does parvo spread on shoes and clothes without direct contact?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 3 months old | 13 lbs

Tiny doesn’t have parvo. But I have a question, do I have to step in infected vomit or poop in order to carry parvovirus on to my shoes or clothes?

Parvo can live in the environment for up to 6 months without proper cleaning, so it can be carried in on your shoes and clothes if you come into contact with the virus. If Tiny is vaccinated, it likely isn't an issue, but if you are interacting with unvaccinated pets or puppies and are concerned, cleaning or changing out shoes/clothes is best to avoid spreading it.
