My dog won't eat after moving, losing weight but still active.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Bully | Male | unneutered | 77 lbs

My 3 year old American Bully has not eaten any dog food except dog treats since last Saturday. We drove from Ohio to Texas to get him from a family member. We have tried his own kibble, new dog food and cooking chicken and rice. He still will not eat. He appears to be losing weight. He is still active, drinks plenty of water and has bowel small movements.

I recommend to call the previous owner and ask if he has always been finicky or if this is out of character. Also make sure to feed the same diet he was eating at his original home. Since Lucius can't talk and tell you why this is happening, it's best to play it safe. I recommend to have him examined by the veterinarian. Make sure to bring in a fresh stool sample for parasite testing. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

I would take Lucius to the vet for a check up asap. I am concerned that if someone has interfered with his house they may have given him something. If he is bloated and not wanting to eat he may have ingested something bad, be taking a reaction to something or his stomach could be bloating. This could potentially be a very serious situation so I would go to the vet now. Hopefully it is nothing and he is just upset from his house being moved.
