Can I steam my cat's raw food? Will it still have nutrients?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 8 years and 3 months old | 8 lbs

Want to change my cats diet to better food. Been told to feed raw and have some recipes but not real sure if i want to feed uncooked meat. Had thought of steam cooking the meat instead of leaving it raw. Does steam cooking still leave all the good nutrients? Thank you.

Hello. The biggest concern with raw diets is potential bacterial contamination, for both you & your cats. I think steaming is an excellent idea as it is a healthier option. Some proteins may still be destroyed, but the essential nutrients will remain intact. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
