My cat has a cast. How can I make the litter box easier for her?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 9 years and 9 months old | 16 lbs

My cat has a fracture in her back right leg and today's her first day in a cast, but she's having trouble figuring out how to use the littler box with the cast on, any tips or advice?

I would consider purchasing a large litterbox to allow her easy access. I would also recommend removing the cover if it is a hooded litterbox to allow her more room to turn around. Here is a website linke with some litterbox options --> https://www.petsmart.com/cat/litter-and-waste-disposal/litter-boxes/grreat-choice-open-rim-litter-pan-37761.html I hope this helps! Best of luck with Prowl and I hope that she recovers soon. Take care.

She will figure it out but it is best to put the litter in a very shallow tray so she can easily get in and out. The best option is a like a baking sheet for cooking. It will be very messy for a bit so use a lot of newspapers under and around the tray to make clean up easier. You will probably also have to find a way to stick the tray down so it doesn't move around too much. You will have to be creative!
