Why does my dog whine in pain when I touch her face or jaw?

Lately if i softly grab both sides of my dogs face like i do when i pet her, she whines in pain, is this a serious issue? Shes a german shepherd and shes only 3

If you have been doing this to her for a long time and just recently she acts like it is hurting her then it should be investigated. There may be something going on inside her mouth or possibly the lymph nodes under the jaw are inflamed. Her TMJ joints may be sore. It could be an underlying ear problem. It is very hard to say. Anything that is a new behavior should be checked out by your vet.
