Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 16 days old | 2 lbs
Our 16 day puppy was in trouble when it came out, it was weak, lethargic, and would not nurse so we had to artificially nurse it just to save it the first few hours after. Now, it breathes with an open mouth, has quick, sometimes raspy breaths and isn't very active (but it eats well, growing normally, otherwise seems healthy). Are these just due to the birth complications or could we have caused fluid to get in its lungs? More info: it has an overbite and has no littermates, mom is inexperienced

Poor puppy. Yes open mouth breathing and raspy breaths indicates that puppy is not getting enough oxygen, which can be due to either fluid in the lungs, congestion in the upper nasal passage or some other birth defect. I would recommend having this puppy examined by your vet soon! I do hope that your pup has a mild issue that can be treated for. Best of luck and take care.
