Is it safe for my cat with a heart murmur to run, play, and be active?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 2 years and 3 months old | 11 lbs

My cat was recently diagnosed with a grade 3 heart murmur and has an ultrasound scheduled in december. My vet said my cant cant be sedated for any reason until we know the cause of the murmur. Is it okay to let him still run around and play and be active or could that be dangerous? Should I encourage him to be more relaxed?

I would try to restrict the exercise if possible, in cats it may be difficult to achieve though. Kovu will know how he can do so probably will be more cautious and adapt his exercise automatically if feeling unwell/not so strong and active.
