My baby cockatiel won't eat. Is it a crop burn from hot formula?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Cockatiel | Male

My baby cockatiel is some 4-5 weeks old..it isn't feeding rightly on the formula.. It has stopped taking his regular quantity of the formula.. I feel like I've accidentally burnt its crop by feeding him on a hot formula mixture... I'm extremely worried right now.. Don't wanna cause it any pain.. Please please please assist.. Thought I'm not sure about the burning part... But whatever I've read on online forums indicate that this is exactly what had happened

Sounds like a probable crop burn. Crop burns can lead to secondary bacterial and yeast infections and/or a fistula. Sometimes these are very serious complications to the point where surgery needs to be done to remove the burned tissue. You will probably have to tube feed the bird by directly passing a soft red rubber catheter into the proventriculus and deposit the food there. He should be on antibiotics due to the high chance of infection. I suggest you consult with your local vet regarding this issue. There is not much more we can tell you over the internet. Best wishes.
