Apply gentle pressure with a wet(cold water) towel and disinfect the area with salt water, or by using an hibiscrub or betadine solution (you can find them in boots - store). A check up then would be ideal to determine the underlying source of the bleeding and have appropriate treatment options.

    Thanks for reaching out. You can try to control the bleeding by applying flour to help it clot. If bleeding persists, a veterinarian is needed and might be needed anyway in case a bone is broken. Good luck.

My female budgie bet my male budgie today on his foot and he is bleeding a little bit. What shall I do?
It would be best to remove your male budgie and thoroughly clean the wound/stop the bleeding with pressure. You can then place him into a hospital cage to allow the wound to heal/keep an eye on it without your female picking at it further. Once healed, you can then start to reintroduce both birds back into the same cage. Adding in extra food, water, perches, toys, etc can help decrease competition over resources which may help decrease fighting as well. If the foot is at all bothersome, Tweety can't place weight on it, or the wound appears infected, having a vet take a look in person to treat, clean and prescribe any medications is best.

Poor bird! If the foot is at all infected, trying to find a vet that can help in person is best. However, until you can find one, it is a good idea to separate the bird from any cage mates to keep from being picked on, and move him to a warm hospital cage with larger, flat perches that will make perching easier on his feet. Keeping the foot clean and dry and using an ointment such as Blu-kote (most feed and pet stores carry this for use in poultry and other birds) can help prevent infection. You can also Google how to make a bird-sized Elizabethan (cone) collar to put on the bird so that he can't get to his foot and bite it while it heals.

How to stop bleeding in a parrot?
Minor bleeding can be stopped with gentle pressure and a styptic powder or even a dab plain corn starch. The image provided may show infection, so Tuki Tuki should (ideally) be examined by your veterinarian or an experienced avian veterinarian. He may need antibiotics.

It sounds like your bird may have bumblefoot, or an infection of the foot which can cause oozing of debris, pus, blood, etc. Other possible causes can include a sprain or break to the foot. If you see a visible wound, you can try soaking the foot in epsom salts and then using an antiseptic like blu-kote, however if it is badly infected or broken this is something that needs to be seen by a veterinarian immediately as severe infections can make a bird ill very quickly and potentially lead to death. Until you can get to your vet, keeping Sunapana warm and in a hospital cage without perches and with food and water dishes that are easy to is best.

I injured my budgie with scissors while clipping.
If Larry has been injured or is actively bleeding from the scissors it is best to seek veterinary care ASAP. If you can't get to the vet immediately, styptic powder or corn starch can be applied to the wound to help stop the bleeding until you can seek care. Your vet can examine the wound, and can prescribe treatment such as wound care or antibiotics to help it heal up correctly.

Hi, It looks like Charm’s foot had trauma that caused a break in the skin (hence the bleeding). What you are seeing now looks like a scab that needs to heal. I would suspect Charm is in some degree of pain or discomfort and I can’t rule out that a bone may have been broken, so a trip to the veterinarian for an exam and pain medications (and perhaps antibiotics) would be best. In the meantime, keep the foot clean and dry as the scabs heal, lower any perches if she seems hesitant to weight bear, and make sure she eats and drinks well.

Hello, my name is Kiona and I am a first time budgie bird owner. I notice my bird had a blood feather so me and my mother carefully took it out. I was wondering what should I do if it continues bleeding.
Poor Mango! If you have styptic powder, or something such as corn or potato starch, you can place it on the wound to help aid with stopping bleeding, however the removal of the blood feather itself should stop the bleeding. You can then keep the area clean and dry with a washcloth to help it heal. If you cannot remove the feather, or the bleeding is continuing even with care, it is best to seek veterinary care immediately as continued bleeding could lead to further complications or even death, and is considered a medical emergency.

Gentle pressure with a cotton swab may stem minor bleeding. If it doesn't, then Blue should be physically examined by your veterinarian or an experienced avian veterinarian to diagnose and treat the underlying cause of the bleed.
