My Siberian husky has eye discharge. When should I worry about it?

It's probably an eye infection although it could also be a foreign body or an eye injury. with eye problems i always urge my clients to come the same day because eye damage can be permanent, if your vet cannot see him before Friday i would advise looking for another vet in your area that will be willing to see him today.

He can have an eye infection, but he may also have gotten dust in his eyes. If he recently was around other dogs I recommend bringing him to a veterinarian since it can be pink eye. Otherwise, I recommend rinsing his eyes with saline and if the redness doesn't resolve or gets worse bring him to a veterinarian. He may need eye drops. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.

I am so sorry to hear that Luna is experiencing these problems with her eye. Start by placing an e-collar or cone on Luna to prevent scratching or rubbing. If the eye is infected it is likely painful, this will prompt Luna to scratch or rub her eye. However, this could inflict further damage, infection or even an ulceration. Green discharge is usually indicative of an infection, and closing her eyes usually means it is also painful. Because eye concerns with dogs, such as infections, corneal ulcerations, cataracts and glaucoma, can progress rapidly in dogs I would have him examined by your veterinarian to diagnose the issue. The precise medication can then be dispensed by your veterinarian. Please do not attempt to treat an eye infection at home with any over the counter medications, drops or ointments. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This mild amount of discharge if it is just periodically and not constant then it is probably normal. However, if this becomes consistent and more severe, have him reevaluated by your veterinarian as this may be due to a corneal injury for example. Best of luck!

Eyes should not have a discharge at all. You can carefully wipe off the discharge with a warm moist paper towel. If the discharge returns, or your dog starts squinting or if the eyes get red or swollen you will need to have your veterinarian give your dog an exam as there may be an infection needing antibiotic treatment.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Buttercup. It is difficult to say without seeing a picture, but a lot of small breed dogs will experience epiphora or clear tearing of the eyes. As along as it is clear, the eye is not red and the dog is not squinting, it is generally not an issue. However, if it is new and only one eye, you will want to have her evaluated by her veterinarian. She can have an eyelash contacting the surface of her eye causing irritation. If they are grey/clear eye discharge and he isn’t squinting then I wouldn’t be too concerned. It could be allergies - you can try Benadryl. See link below for dosages. If he has yellow/green discharge and/or e is squinting I would have your vet take a look. Your vet will be able to determine if there is an ulcer or infection in the eye. I recommend to have Meeka examined by her veterinarian. Green/yellow discharge indicates a bacterial infection. If it has been present for more than a few days, it's likely she needs some antibiotics to clear the infection. Make sure to protect the eye from rubbing. She may need to wear an elizabethan collar at all times. Best of luck.

A bit of serous or clear discharge is not uncommon in dogs to some extent. However, if that discharge becomes mucopurulent (yellowish/greenish) it could mean a number of possible conditions that do need therapy such as a corneal ulcer secondary to perhaps trauma while camping, or other conditions such as KCS. If she appears to have that type of discharge, have her evaluated by your veterinarian to ensure that she is ok and does not require any therapy. Good luck with Koda!!
