Why do my kittens have nasal congestion and strange nose scabs?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I have 2 five month old kittens who were recently fixed, and we moved into a new house. Both are exactly fine, playing, eating and drinking. But one has a lot of nasal congestion, and the other one has these strange mattes and striations on his nose. I attached a picture of the one without congestion.

Hello. I am a bit concerned about this kitten possibly having a ringworm or other fungal infection. This is something you should let your veterinarian take a look at. The nasal congestion could be an upper respiratory infection that may have come on from the stress of the surgery. We do not always put these kitties on medication, especially if they are acting normal & eating well. But do try to have the pictured kitten seen soon. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
