Why is my dog losing weight, not eating, and having trouble pooping?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 5 months old | 38 lbs

Haley is a 3 year old German Shepherd. She weighs about 35-40 pounds. She has recently been losing weight and has anorexia; You can see her ribs, spine and hip bones. We just had a pancreatitis test done and it came back negative. The vet has put her on two separate digestive medicines at different times and neither has worked. She barely has an appetite. She has a hard time pooping and I KNOW there is something wrong and she is in pain. PLEASE HELP !!!

Hi, and thanks for your question. These signs could be compatible with an inflammation infection of the gastrointestinal system and surrounding organs (like pancreas and liver). A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is immediately essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics and further investigations (like abdominal imaging as ultrasound or radiographs) may be needed.
