My pet won't eat or drink, is lethargic, and feels hot. Is it a fever?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Female | spayed | 1 year and 9 months old | 2.53 lbs

Baby was fine & active before she refused to eat & drink today. I am so worried because she loves to eat and if she’s not eating, I think there must be something with her. She only wants to sleep and her body feels kinda hot. Is she having a fever?

Any animal that has a drastic change in behavior is probably sick and should see a vet. Baby may have a fever but without taking her temperature there is no way to know. I suggest you have her to your vet for an exam.

I'm not sure what kind of pet Baby is, which makes it hard to give specific advice or suggestions - but in general, it sounds like she's definitely ill. These are very vague symptoms that could be caused by almost anything, so I would recommend having her examined by a vet as soon as possible. He/she can do blood work or other diagnostic testing if needed to help determine the problem and get her started on appropriate treatment.
