Best dog food for my overweight Pomsky? Why avoid grain-free diets?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 2 years and 8 months old | 30 lbs

My dog is a pomsky, she weighs around maybe around 25-28 pounds. Vet said she should weigh 15 pounds. I was wondering what are some dog food brands to give her and why is grain free not good for dogs ?

Grain allergies are very rare in dogs. It's a myth that grains are bad for dogs. Vets are seeing an increase in dogs developing dilated cardiomyopathy who are on grain free diets. The FDA is now investigating that link. I never recommend grain free diets. Brands of dog food I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. I would feed Willow one of those brands.
