My dog has a red, hard ear lump. Could it be cancer or allergies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Female | spayed | 2 years and 2 months old

I’ve noticed this small red hard (doesn’t move) lump on the very tip of my dogs ear (photos attached). She doesn’t seem too bothered by it and I’m certain the lump has been there awhile, but suddenly become a bit red in the last few day. She has allergies so scratches her ears a lot so I don’t know if this has what’s made it red and grown slightly. I’m worried it’s cancer. She’s fine in herself. I have an appointment booked for 2 days time with a vet but not sure if it should be sooner?!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I’m sorry to hear Bella has a bump on her ear. I do recommend all new growths new evaluated by your regular veterinarian to determine if they are malignant (cancer) or not. I would keep your appointment, but if you are very concerned you could call and see if they have any earlier availabilities. Good luck!
