My senior dog has liver disease. What to expect in the future?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 14 years and 9 months old | 65 lbs

My 19+ year old black Lab has been diagnosed with liver disease after a lump appeared on his side. He is taking a daily pill and special food, but I would like to know what to expect in the future. He still has plenty of energy and has not slowed down a bit. Thank you, Fonda

Hi Fonda. I'm sorry Bowser isn't doing well. Liver disease can show a variety of symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, jaundice, blood clotting problems, and fluid in the abdomen. Hopefully the medication and food helps, but if you see any of those signs, have him seen by a vet immediately.
