How to give meds to my aggressive dog with hot spots and anal gland?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 16 years and 7 months old | 80 lbs

Snowden has been to 2 different Vets in 2 weeks. She has a infected Anal gland, and recently, she is breaking out with Hot spots on her back legs. Between the 2 Vets, she has been prescribed: 1. Cefpodoxime 200 mg. 1 x a day 2. Tramadol 50 mg. 2-3 pills 2x a day. 3. Vetofen 75 mg. 1 pill 2 x a day. Neither Vet was able to examine her, she is var aggressive and bites. She also has not eaten any real food in 4 days, and I can't get her to take her pills. I have tried everything. Jot spots in pic

Do you have a muzzle for Snowden? If not, I would get one for her, then take her into the vet to get sedated to have her safely examined. I would also recommend having injectable medications given to treat her problems, like Convenia (a long acting antibiotic shot) so you don't have to worry about giving her pills.
