My dog has a cracked paw pad and is limping. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cairn Terrier | Male | neutered | 8 years and 1 month old | 8 lbs

Bertie is limping, I think he has cracked / pictured his front left paw pad. I’m bathing it in hibiscrub and putting Vaseline on. How long will it take to heal?

I would bring Bertie to the veterinarian. I don't see a crack or cut in the paw but without an examination on this paw it is hard to say. His inter-digital area between his pads are inflamed which would lead me to think he is licking. Your veterinarian will be able to perform an examination and see what is going on.
