My young hamster has a small lump on its side. What should I do?

My hamster is less than a year old but i’ve noticed a small lump growing in his side. You can’t tell just by looking and I originally thought it was his hair matting but it’s actually a bump. Besides that, he seems very active and healthy. Pet's info: Small Animal | Hamster | Male

Although a picture of it would help to give you a more specific answer, this lump/bump/growth should be ideally examined by your local vet to have a diagnosis established. Your vet may want to perform an FNA (fine needle aspiration) or a biopsy to sample the bump and determine its underlying nature. Differentials would include skin cysts, infections, benign or more malignant type of tumors.
