When can I safely remove my dog's spay incision onesie after 14 days?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 2 years and 9 months old | 14 lbs

Less frantic question this time, we are now 8 days out from Willows spay surgery. Things have been much better with the baby clothes instead of the cone. She is however still uncomfortable. I am wondering if she can FOR SURE go without the onesie protecting her incision site after the 14 days. How will I know if she is completely healed by then? I am absolutely terrified of her opening up the incision. Is 14 days a guaranteed safe time to go without protection? Thanks you for your time and care.

Hello! Fourteen days is the amount of time needed to have a spay incision heal. You can have her checked out by a vet after the 14 days to make sure it's fully healed before removing the onesies. I hope this helps!
