What's causing my dog's inflamed paw? Bug bite or vet needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 7 months and 10 days old | 10 lbs

Any ideas what this could be?? I’m not sure if it’s just a basic bug bite or requires more treatment... the whole paw seems to be inflamed causing concern.

This looks like it could be mange. Based on his age I would say this is the most likely cause. Other possibilities: * contact allergic dermatitis * bacterial skin infection * yeast skin infection * fungal skin infection * autoimmune disease I suggest you have Tucker examined by your vet. You cannot treat this properly until you know what the underlying problem is.

This certainly could just be a bug bite. If it isn't causing Tucker a lot of discomfort or irritation, it is ok to monitor this for now. If it is just a bug bite, then it will ikely resolve on its own and gradually get better over the next 4-7 days. However, if it doesn't seem to be getting better or really bothers Tucker, it should be seen by your vet for further care. It could still be a bug bite, but some pets just need help from the vet to get these type of skin lesions to heal well. I hope that your puppy Tucker resolves his paw issue soon! Best wishes and take care.
