Why does my 5-year-old Morkie pee inside after outdoor walks?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Morkie | Female | spayed | 4 years and 3 months old | 10 lbs

What am I doing wrong. I can't house break my 5 yr old Morkie. I'm very consistent with potty time walks and meal time. We go out walk/sniffing and as soon as we get in she pees on my carpet. Doesn't matter how long we are outdoors 10 minutes or 60 minutes. She edits until we get in. Any suggestions? Thank you Diane

Hello Diane. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. You didn't mention if this was a new problem or a lifelong problem. Has she ever been completely housebroken? If this is a relatively new problem, Nikki may have an underlying medical condition - like a urinary tract infection. I suggest you have her examined by your vet and have a urine test done to check for infection or other underlying medical problem. If you can rule out a medical problem then you can assume it is behavioral, in which case, you should consult with a professional, in-home dog trainer. It is very hard to potty train a dog this age without professional help.
