Thank you for submitting your question regarding Harvey. Garlic is toxic to dogs as it damages red blood cells. However, there was not a likely a lot on the pizza he ate if it was just flavoring on the crust. If there were whole cloves though, this would be more worrisome. Either way, it is safest for him to see his veterinarian. I hope this information helps!

I don't think Parker would have ingested enough garlic just by licking your fingers to get a toxicity. I personally would not worry too much about it. I suggest you monitor him closely for any abnormal symptoms and get him to your vet if you see anything. Here is a link to an article about garlic toxicity in dogs. Of course if you are worried you could always take him to your vet for an exam now. http://www.petpoisonhelpline.com/poison/garlic/

While garlic is toxic to dogs, Oliver would have needed to eat at least an entire head of garlic in order to experience any serious toxic effects since he's such a big dog. There's still a slight chance that he might develop a mild stomach upset with vomiting or diarrhea, but even that's pretty unlikely. Just keep an eye on him, but you don't need to worry!

If the topping was mostly parmesean cheese that had been cooked with garlic, it is unlikely to be toxic. If the topping was pure garlic, a small amount ingested by a dog would probably not cause issues, but to be on the safe side, I would recommend that you have Bella Roca examined by a veterinarian. Your vet may recommend that she have some baseline bloodwork and IV fluids for support. Alternatively, you can call the Pet Poison Helpline for consultation.
