Dog has itchy skin, black ear spot. Benadryl or vet visit needed?

Does this look like a skin infection? Something that could possibly need anti-biotics? I am looking for some over the counter help as he seems itchy. A friend recommended a dose of Benadryl? We also noticed a black spot on his ear :(. Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | 25 lbs

It may be a skin infection on Jake's face, but the ear flap looks like he could have an ear infection. Unfortunately I cannot recommend any OTC medications, as I cannot legally say they are safe for him. You do have to have him seen by a vet for these problems. It's best for him.
