My budgie has a red eye and missing feathers. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Parakeet | Male

Today when I came home from school, my Budgie had a redness under his eye, and it looked like there were feather missing under his eye too. He (my budgie) lives with a female budgie, so maybe it was a fight? I'm worried that it could be an infection of some sort. What should I do? (Sky is the light blue one)

Thanks for reaching out about Sky and including photos. The lesion can not be identified in the pictures but a trauma or infection are most likely. It could have been a small squabble with the female also so watch for continued aggression. Monitor appetite and activity and if the redness persists, a veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a treatment plan. Good luck.
