My senior dog is peeing, not eating, and restless after surgery.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | spayed | 12 years and 10 months old

My chocolate Labrador ( 12 years 11 months) has recently been for some teeth out and had to go under anaesthetic, since having her operation she’s not been the same. She’s started weeing herself, not eating her food (normally enhales it). She doesn’t settle at night time. In the day she seems fine and is her normal self. But something isn’t right? The vets tested her for UTI and it was negative and also did blood tests and everything seemed fine except one thing was slightly elevated. Help ?

Hello. I wonder if Ruby is showing some signs for arthritis & is is pain. This would certainly cause her to be restless. Did your vet just check a voided urine sample, or was a sterile one sampled? This might give more information. We can also see urinary incontinence in spayed female dogs. Often this will respond to medications like Proin & Incurin. If she continues to not act well, the next step might be some x-rays or an ultrasound exam to see if there is something ongoing that was not apparent on the blood work. Hopefully, she will start feeling better soon & thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
