My dog has a seasonal rash with red bumps and scabs. Is it allergies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund miniature | Female | spayed | 6 years and 5 months old | 10 lbs

My dachshund has a skin rash on her stomach and under her arms. The rash has red bumps which eventually scab over and then flake off but they do not have puss. She does lick them every once and awhile but it is not constantly. She gets the same rash every year around fall time so I am assuming it's an allergy of some sort but am not sure.

It could be an allergy or an infection. Hard to say without an exam and some testing. You can try using this medicated spray on the affected area . If after a week or so of treating her the skin doesn't look much better then she should see a vet. You would use one spray every day to every other day until the lesions have resolved. This looks like a very mild superficial skin infection. I suggest you use this medicated shampoo on her whole body. Follow the instructions closely and be sure to rinse it off well as to not leave any soap residue on her skin. You can bathe her every 3-4 days. ( https://www.allivet.com/p-6692-douxo-chlorhexidine-shampoo-for-dogs-and-cats.aspx ) You can use this medicated spray on the red spots wherever they are on her body once or twice a day until they are gone.
