Is it safe to remove my cat's cone 7 days after neutering surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | 10 lbs

My cat got neutered on the 8th, which makes it 7 days. I was told 7-10 days before allowing him to run around without the cone. He’s been trying to lick himself. He even found a way to try to grab himself to lick himself. I attached a photo of him doing that. Is it safe to take the cone off now and let him get back to running around?

It likely is just fine to take the cone off now. Cats are quick healers. However make sure you look at the incision site thoroughly for any areas that look troublesome and get them evaluated by your vet if seen. Otherwise enjoy your kitty Ayden and I hope things continue to go well with him : ) Take care
