Puppy playtime & feeding: How much for an underweight growing pup?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 14 days old

Is it ok to assign play time at this age? I love her and love to play with her but playing with her all the time gets extremely tiring specially when I miss my meds and another question, the amount of food the previous owners told us she was getting was extremely low and she's lost quite a bit of weight, it safe to increase her food by a 1/4 of the original amount every 2-3 days until she gets to the reccomended amount? She's getting 30 kibbles of maxi starter mixed with pmr every 7 hours

Yes it is actually recommended to only do hard core playing with your puppy twice daily for 20-30mins at a time anyway. This helps keep unnecessary pressure and possible trauma to their growing bones and joints. Also you can increase the amount of food instantly, no need to do a slow transition. Your pet will adjust quickly. Also make sure to have Beretta checked for intestinal parasites, since this is the most common reason for having an underweight puppy. Best of luck moving forward. Take care!
