My dog is breathing fast and noisy. Is something stuck in his throat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi, I think my dog has gotten a corkscrew prickle caught in his throat, I have checked his gums and under his tongue but didn't find anything. His breathing has been fast (like he hast just been running) and he is breathing noisy. Every now and then he grunts and snorts like there is something there, he isn't as relaxed as normal and jumps up out of his sleep. What could possibly be wrong? Could there be a corkscrew stuck in the lining of his throat? What can I do to check?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your dog. An upper respiratory tract infection is a common cause of the symptoms you are describing. I recommend that he sees a veterinarian today. You will not be able to check for something stuck in his throat at home. His veterinarian may take x-rays of his throat or refer you to specialist to have a camera down his throat. I hope this information helps!
