Cat still has ticks after Advantage Multi. What's safe to use now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 10 years and 5 months old | 12 lbs

About a week and a half ago I treated my cat with his monthly dose of Advantage Multi, but now, he's coming home with ticks daily. Since Advantage 2 treats ticks, I Wrongly assumed that he would still be covered when moving up to multi. What can I use to prevent/kill the ticks? Is it too soon to treat with Frontline or Advantage 2? What other options are there?

Yes, it's too soon to apply another topical medication. I suggest try a Seresto Collar (not Hartz or any of those other OTC collars). You can put that on now and it is good for 8 months for both fleas and ticks. Read the instructions to make sure you put it on correctly.
