My dog had a severe reaction to medicated shampoo. Is this normal?

Pet's info: Dog | West Highland White Terrier | Male | neutered | 30 lbs

My dog has had a skin condition for months now we have been prescribed multiple allergy medications for it as well as steroid shots he itches and licks himself raw typically on stomach and under the arms he was recently perscribed a medical shampoo I used it tonight and about 20 minutes later it looked like it was covered in pus he was also shaking a bit and still is hours later. Someone please help

Poor Elliott! If he is having such a strong reaction to the shampoo I would discontinue it, and use a clean wet washcloth or a warm bath to remove any residue that may still be on him causing a reaction. I would also let your vet know ASAP about the reaction in case they need to see him for treatment, and so they can switch to something that may work better. If you haven't already, seeking out a referral to a veterinary dermatologist is also a good idea with prolonged/severe skin issues.
