Why is my neutered dog suddenly humping and acting aggressive?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Havanese | Male | neutered | 3 years and 3 months old | 18 lbs

My dog is 3 years old. He was neutered as soon as I could get him neutered as a puppy. He has never really humped things the last 2 years but the last couple days he has started to hump his bed a lot and it seems wet and smells like pee a little after he does it. He has also been very energetic and aggressive at night which is out of character. Should I be concerned?

Humping is not only a sexual behavior, it can also be a dominance behavior, a stress response, etc. Any new changes lately - new pet in the home, any major changes in his routine or in the house? I suggest you refer to this article for more information. Hope this helps. ( https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/dog-care/common-dog-behavior-issues/mounting-and-masturbation )
