My dog is vomiting, has diarrhea, and is lethargic. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year and 4 months old

Shirley is currently having a loss of appetite, and is vomiting yellowish liquid. She also has diarrhea, and I have notice some lethargy. I'm not sure what we can do to help, but at the moment we are letting her out every half an our, and refreshing her water bowl every two hours. I'm not sure what to do further. We have not taken her to a vets to get checked out for this. I was hoping ypu may have an answer to this? Thanks - Jaz Gray

Hello Jaz. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Sorry to hear that Shirley is not well. She really needs to be examined by a veterinarian. Unfortunately, her symptoms are too vague for me to give you any idea about what might be going on with her. If she seems relatively normal other than the diarrhea and some lethargy she can probably wait to see the vet until they are open. Keep doing what you are doing with the water but I recommend you withhold food until you take her to the vet.
