My hamster has head tilt and can't walk after Baytril. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Hamster | Female | unspayed | 0.0812 lbs

My Djungarian dwarf hamster is being treated with Baytril for an uterine infection which caused some abdominal bloating. She has been taking it for 2 days and now has a severe head tilt to the left and cannot walk straight or hold her head straight. What should I do for her?

Sorry about Augie. Uterine infections are not common in hamsters but uterine cancer is since they are induced ovulators. Rarely does baytril result in neurologic problems, but cardiovascular blood clots can cause strokes. A recheck with your veterinarian is recommended, and possibly an abdominal ultrasound. Anti-inflammatories might help with the head tilt. Good luck.
