My senior budgie has a hole in his beak. Is a vet visit safe?

I have two budgies and the male budgie, Eric, has a little hole on the side of his beak. It doesn’t go all the way through his beak, it only goes about halfway through his beak. I noticed it yesterday when I was cleaning their cage. Since Eric is almost 11 years old, I’m wondering if it would be possible for me to bring him in to get it checked on. I don’t want him to become very stressed because he is an older bird. He isn’t used to people picking him up and holding him. Pet's info: Bird | Parakeet | Male | 11 years and 9 months old

Thanks for reaching out about Eric and including photos. The beak erosions should be assessed by a veterinarian, as am concerned this could be a clinical sign of an beak infection or even liver disease. Also a little concerning is the thickening of the cere and tan/brown color. A veterinary visit is recommended. Good luck.
