My budgie laid eggs! How long to hatch, keep warm, and what to feed?

hello my bird already laied eggs. In how many weeks do they hatch? Also do to the cold weather what can I do to keep my birds warm. what other foods could I feed my budgie? what if the nest box is small will they lay eggs in it or will they lay them on the bottom of the cage?

Thanks for reaching out about Blue. The average incubation length for budgies is 14-16 days, once she starts sitting on the eggs. A thermostat regulated heat lamp can be used to regulate the temperature. If she is going into and out of the nest box, and has laid egg in the box, she is probably comfortable with the size, as long as it is large enough to rear the young. Regarding nutrition, a wide variety of vegetables and a plant protein source (legumes) is important to replace nutrients lost in laying eggs. Good luck

    Incubation lasts between 17 and 23 days. Any egg that does not hatch out after 23 days is likely not a viable egg and can be discarded. Chicks can leave the parents at about 8 weeks of age. Training can begin at that time.

Budgie eggs take about 3 weeks from the lay date to hatch. They will also become more opaque in color as the baby bird developed inside. Looking up budgie care online will give you a wealth of information about baby bird care that can go beyond the scope of what I can type here. :) As the babies age, they'll begin to eat adult food on their own as their mom weans them, however having baby bird supplies on hand is a must in case mom and dad can't feed them enough on their own. Having another cage is best to help prevent fights between mom, babies and other birds, but if they have enough room to safely fly around and have their own spaces it should be OK. As for training, offering a favorite treat every time you are around your budgies can help get them used to you. From there you can begin petting, handling and working with them. Training to sit on a finger usually works by placing the finger just under your budgie's chest, to encourage a natural "stepping up" and perching motion.

my budgie laid 6 eggs and they haven't hatched it's been 26 days and I candled them I am sure they are not fertilized. Do I just throw them away and remove the nest box.
Incubation in budgies is about 18 days from the day the hen begins sitting on The eggs. You are probably correct in saying the eggs are infertile. If there is no male present, they are definitely infertile. Wait until Coco loses interest, then remove and discard the eggs. This will prevent her from laying "replacement" eggs. Remove the nest box afterwards.

Hi.. i have 2 pairs of budgies ... My female budgie lays 7 eggs but not hached after 35 days. I have removed 4 of them.. out of 3 2 have signs of life.. but.. my budgie not seating on them. Plz give some idea.. and female budgie is too irritated
Thanks for reaching out. Artificially incubating the eggs is an option but an incubator must be purchased as the eggs need a very consistent temperature/humidity and need to be rotated often. Do you know when the female female started sitting on the eggs? Not necessarily when she laid them. They will lay every 48 hours to a clutch size and then start to incubate. A veterinary visit will be needed to investigate medical reasons for infertility on the male and female. Good luck.

Can we hatch the budgie egg . today my budgie bird has given three egg and I want to hatch those egg . please tell me the process of hatching egg
It would depend on if the eggs are fertilized or not. If you only have female budgies the eggs will not be fertilized and will not hatch. If you have a mating male with female I would recommend keeping the birds in a quiet location that is low stress. The female bird will care to the eggs and keep them warm. If you find she is leaving them in the open you. An put material in the cage so she can build a nest.

You should just continue to feed your budgie a balanced diet that is designed for budgies. While spinach is a great treat, it should not be used as the main diet. If you are concerned about your budgie getting enough nutrients, you can add in some crushed oyster shells or a cuttle bone for calcium, or include some egg-food (a treat found at most pet stores) to help boost nutrition post-egg laying.

As long as the parents are taking care of the hatchling themselves, you shouldn't need to do anything as they will keep it warm by laying with it in the nest, and feed it as needed. It also seems like you are feeding lots of nutrition-filled items to your birds as well! It is a good idea to have some baby bird food and a syringe on hand that you can mix up if you need to help with feeding, or if the parents aren't caring for it. Most pet stores carry this and will have feeding instructions on the side of the bag. Congrats on the baby bird! It sounds like it and its parents are in good hands.

Thanks for your question about Bibi. Budgies typically only form one egg at a time inside their bodies, so if Bibi just laid an egg, she hopefully doesn’t have another present yet. With that said, they can form and lay an egg in about 24 hours, so she may be making another one currently that you could see in another day or two. Usually budgies will lay around 3-5 eggs. I didn’t see if this was the first egg of her clutch or not, but if it is, she is likely to lay more. I would recommend keeping a close eye on her to make sure she isn’t having difficulty laying her additional eggs and that her appetite is normal. Providing her with extra calcium will be important while she is laying as well. I hope that helps to answer your question, and thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Is it possible that all budgie eggs can hatch? My budgie laid 6 eggs. 4 have already hatched and I noticed some cracks on 2. Will be my budgie be able to take care of all 6 properly?
Budgies have on average a clutch of about 4-5 eggs, so 6 eggs is an awful lot if all the babies survive. Offering extra food for mom and dad to feed themselves and babies with, and having some baby bird formula on hand is best in case you need to step in and help out with supplemental feedings. You can find appropriate sized syringes and baby bird food with feeding instructions at most pet stores.

My mumma budgies seems to have 2 eggs in her tummy for about a week and she has only just started going in the box, is this ok or is she egg bound? She is eating and moving around lots but is huge!
It takes about 10 days after mating for the hen to begin laying. She will lay one egg every day or every other day until she has a clutch of 4-8 eggs. Monitor for lethargy, loss of appetite or straining but do not disturb her too much if she is in her nesting box. If you don't see an egg in a few days or if she becomes lethargic, then have her examined by your veterinarian or an experienced avian veterinarian.
