How do I safely switch my dog's food if they have a sensitive stomach?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | English Cocker Spaniel | Male

Hi, my dog recently was in the vet for his colitis and he was given antibiotics. The vet thought maybe his food he was on was causing the issue and said if it persists we should change his food. He went on a diet of a recovery wet food and then we were told to put him on chicken and rice until he was better then try the new food My question is what ratio should we introduce his new food as he has never had these nuts before and has a sensitive stomach.

I would start by giving Kenzie 75% chicken and rice, and 25% new food. Feed that for a couple of days, then go to a 50/50 mixture. Again, feed that for a couple of days, and go to a 25/75 mixture. Feed for a couple of days, then go to 100% new food. I hope this helps.
