My male dog has a rash on his testicles. What should I do about it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 5 months old

I was cleaning my dogs paws from his walk and this caught my eye. I’ve never noticed it until now. It looks like some sort of rash on his testicles, it’s only on one spot.

Yes, it looks like scrotal dermatitis. I suggest you use these medicated pads on the scrotum 1-2 times per day. If after using the pads for about 5 days it is not looking better then he should see your vet. Hello, thank you for using PetCoach. It is a scrotal skin infection. I doubt it is poison ivy but typically it is very itchy so if it is not bothering him then it is unlikely. You can try to treat it topically for 4-5 days and see if it improves but if it doesn't then he needs to see a vet. I suggest you get something like this to put on it. Be aware that sometimes you putting something on topically can actually cause them to want to lick it; do not let him lick it otherwise it will get worse for sure.
