My puppy bites hard, yelping makes it worse. How to stop biting?

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 10 days old

I'm trying to stop her from biting, I tried the yelping method but she doesn't even bat an eye, if anything she just bites even harder, what do I do know? Will I have to just endure the entire puppy biting and teething phase?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Beretta. I recommend redirecting her to something positive when she starts biting. Give her a bone or a toy to play with instead of her chewing on you. If this does not help, then ignore until she settles down. I hope this information helps!

I am so sorry that you are experiencing these problems with biting with Darby. I am sure it is very upsetting for you. First of all rest assured that this is a very normal puppy behaviour. Puppies learn through play biting and it is part of our role as pet parents to help them learn limits. The biting behaviour will diminish with age. I would not attempt negative reinforcement such as striking Darby or speaking harshly as this will potentially create more serious behaviour issues such as anxiety and fear-aggression. Try some calm corrections and positive reinforcement. If Darby bites you, simply say in a calm voice "no" and stop interacting with her for a few moments. This over time will teach her that biting is not a desired form of play. Also try reinforcing her as she starts to play in a good way by not biting, and give her a small training treat. If Darby does manage to bite hard enough to break the skin be careful of a possible infection. Monitor your wound for heat. Swel

We have a new puppy (Hera) that is constantly biting and chewing in our other dog Zeus around his throat and jawline. How can we get her to stop?

You are likely describing teething which is basically a normal type of behavior when puppies are growing up and it is secondary to mouth discomfort as teeth are growing. I recommend that you get Hera teething type toys which you can get at your local pet store or online. Anytime that she tries to nibble at you or the other dog, you say no and give her the toy. Hi and thanks for posting on Boop by Petco! It is not uncommon for puppies to want to bite things they shouldn't (like furniture or your hands) while they are teething and learning to explore the world around them.. However, this behavior should be discouraged. Hiding your hands behind your back every time she tries to bite and be sure to always redirect with a tactile chew toy. You can also try spraying bitter apple spray on objects around the house she likes to chew on to discourage her from continuing to chew on them. When you play with her, let her mouth on your hands. Continue play until she bites hard. When she does, immediately give a high-pitched yelp, as if you’re hurt, and let your hand go limp. This should startle your puppy and cause her to stop mouthing you. (If yelping seems to have no effect, you can say “Too bad!” or “You blew it!” in a stern voice instead.) Praise your puppy for stopping. Resume whatever you were doing before. If she bites you hard again, yelp again. Repeat these steps no more than three times within a 15-minute period. If you find that yelping alone doesn’t work, you can switch to a time-out procedure. When she delivers a hard bite, yelp loudly. Then, when she startles and turns to look at you or looks around, remove your hand. Either ignore her for 10 to 20 seconds or, if she starts mouthing on you again, get up and move away for 10 to 20 seconds. Something is off-kilter in the relationship between you (and the family) and your dog. i would have her assessed by the vet first, to be certain that she is physically healthy. how long will it take for Nero to stop biting? And how to teach him not to? I try to stop him from biting by having a toy to play tug of war but that doesn't always happen. also if I try to walk away, ignore him, he follows and starts pulling clothes
This needs time and consistency. I would recommend ignoring and trading your hand or clothing for something more appropriate. I would also recommend getting chew toys at the local petstore. Biting is normal puppy behavior but it is something you want to try to get under control quickly. There are a few methods to deal with biting and my favorite is to imitate another puppy. As soon as Apollo puts his mouth on you, 'yelp' and then walk away from him. Completely ignore him until he calms down. As soon as he does so, give him calm attention and encourage him to chew on something like a toy. If everyone is consistent with this behavior, most puppies learn quickly because they want their human's attention. That being said, not all puppies are cuddly. They are individuals just like people.
