My dog ate a pork roll casing. Will he pass it safely or need a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 7 years and 6 months old | 27 lbs

My 27 pound mixed breed ate about a 2 inch by 2 inch piece out of a pork roll casing. This happened about 30 minutes ago. The casing material is almost like linen, but I am not positive. He is currently doing fine and had a few pieces of food. Can my dog safely pass this or do I need to take him somewhere?

Hello. I think Booka should be able to pass this just fine. Just watch for any signs of abdominal discomfort such as vomiting, diarrhea, retching, stretching, bloating, excessive water intake or loss of appetite. If Booka remains normal over the next 48-72 hours, then she will most likely be past all danger. But for the most part, she should be fine.
