My cat is shaking, can't walk, and breathes loudly. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 11 months and 15 days old

My cat 3 months ago began to shake & this shake was increasing all the time & caused her to lose her balance. Now she can’t walk properly, run, or jump. Over 2 months she took antibiotics, steroids, calcium, & vitamin injections but nothing worked with her. When this happened she was 7 months old, healthy but a little bit depressed(maybe of the presence of an unrelated mother cat & her kittens). She survived panleukopenia when she was 2 months old. Now, she breathes loudly, fastly, & I’m worried

I wonder if maybe she has neurologic damage or did not heal after the panleukopenia. I would talk to your vet about blood work, a neurologic exam, and maybe referral to a specialist in internal medicine or neurology to determine what could be causing the shaking and loss of balance. Increased respiratory rate or changes in breathing sounds could indicate an upper respiratory infection, a nasal polyp, or possible scar tissue from previous infection.
