What to do if my outdoor cat is limping, hiding, and not eating?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | British Shorthair | Female | spayed

My 1 year old cat is limping. She is very active and an outdoors cat. This Evening she cried when we picked her up and noticed she isn’t putting weight on her front right paw. We think the pain is in the shoulder region as the paw isn’t swollen and she lets us touch that bit. She isn’t eating and is hiding under the table. She isn’t crying unless the leg is touched and there are no other signs of distress. No breathing issues and no soiling. No evidence of trauma such as a car impact.

Limping means Biscuit is in pain, and I would consider that a sign of distress. She's also showing you she's in distress because she won't eat, that tells me she is in a lot of pain. I would take her into a vet now to get checked out.
