Hi there, my dog has cataracts and has been slowly getting worse and worse she is too old to operate on and last night she began bumping into walls and I could really tell she couldn’t see. She also has a lump where her tear duct is. I can get her into our vet until Monday but is there a way to clear her block tear duct or an ointment I may be able to use? She is a mini fox terrier cross chihuahua and she is 14 years old

Hello, so sorry to hear that your dog is having this problem. Unfortunately there is not anything you can use topically (over the counter) that will clear a tear duct. If it is blocked she will either need a steroid drop from the vet or they will have to place a catheter in the duct and flush it that way. I suggest you try to get her in sooner for an appointment. If the vet doesn't have an actual appointment open sometimes they will allow you to drop her off at the clinic and they can work on her in between appointments. Same goes for you, if your schedule is making an appointment difficult maybe you can drop her off at the vet and then pick her up later.
