What can I do to help my dog stop getting hiccups every night?

My dog gets the hiccups every night and it's not because he is eating to fast. So what can I do to help him stop getting hiccups?

What a sweet face!! Unfortunately there’s not really much you can do, but the good news is that hiccups are harmless. You can try using a raised food and bowl, but this may not help much. Sorry I don’t have a solution, but the good news is that hiccups aren’t a health problem. Thanks for asking Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Sara! Hiccups are some what normal in puppies and they out grow them. I don't see adult dogs get hiccups. If she isn't drinking or eating to fast it can be from being tired, excitement or even stress. You can massage her belly or take her for a quick light walk outside to try and relax the spasming diaphragm. Most dogs are not bothered too much by hiccups. I wish you the best!

My adult Yorkie has the hiccups. It started late last night. It seems to go away for about an hour but it comes back . I tried to give him water but he won’t drink it for some reason. What can I do to make it stop
Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. Hiccups will not typically cause any problems. I would try and exercise him and get him to go for a long walk or run / chase after a toy for a bit to see if this helps the hiccups go away. Offer water and maybe add a small amount of chicken broth to the water to entice him. Hopefully this helps! My puppy gets hiccups quite often (at least once a day). Is this something I should be concerned about?
Puppy hiccups are quite common and typically become less frequent with age. Often this is due to gulping air with excitement or eating/drinking to fast. If the latter is the case you can try feeding on a plate with a cup or rock in the middle to make her eat around it thus slowing her down. I hope this helps and thank you for using Boop by Petco!

Can I give my puppy gripe water to ease hiccups.
I am sorry that Daxon is having hiccups, but rest assured they are very normal for puppies. Their gastrointestinal tracts are immature and still developing. Hiccups are sudden, involuntary contractions of the diaphragm muscle. As the muscle contracts repeatedly, the opening between the vocal cords snaps shut to check the inflow of air and makes the hiccup sound. Because these areas are still developing in puppies, they are prone to more frequent hiccups then older dogs. My philosophy is often that less is more. Meaning that, the hiccups are natural, and therefore we shouldn't interfere with unnecessary medications.
If the hiccups are slightly frustrating for you to hear, perhaps you could try distracting or redirecting Daxon when they occur. This might "trick his system" into halting the hiccups. Here are a few of my favorite interactive toys;

Hello. Hiccups are the result of a spasm in the diaphragm. It can occur from various maladies including heartworm disease, stimulation of the phrenic nerve & cancer ( very unlikely in such a young dog ). This may also be a case of Synchronous Diaphragmatic Flutter, also known as Thumps. I would talk with your veterinarian to see if an EKG & blood work is needed. Otherwise, some of these dogs will respond to a tapering dose of Prednisone, &/or an oral calcium tablet. Sometimes, it just eventually goes away by itself. Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Hiccups are spasms of the diaphragm and can occur from excitement, eating or drinking too fast (swallows air), stress or fatigue. If Axie is eating and drinking and NOT retching or vomiting I would think he should be fine. Also be sure he can rest comfortably and his belly isn't swollen. If he won't eat or is vomiting or retching you should contact the owners and take him to a Vet. If all else is fine maybe check in on him an lunch. Good luck!

My dog 3 years old, he has never been sick, he has had something like hiccups for an hour almost.. this is the first time. What could it be?
This could be due to something he ate, it could also be due to a bloat, possibly due to drinking too much water too fast. for now just monitor him closely, in most cases this symptom will resolve without treatment within a few hours. if it last for a long time or if he seems to be getting worse- take him to your vet in order to get it checked and treated.

What causes hiccups/burps on dogs? I gave my dog a small snack (the one in the picture) and he started hiccuping for a few seconds. I’ve also noticed that sometimes my dog will burp while eating.
Usually eating/drinking too fast or swallowing some air when eating/drinking. It is not anything I would be concerned about unless the hiccups persist for a long period or time or he starts vomiting. If he is a fast eater/drinker you can do things to make him eat/drink slower like put large, smooth rock into his bowl so he has to eat/drink around it. This will slow him down.

Although it seems unusual, it is actually very common for puppies to have hiccups. Typically it's related to either drinking or eating too fast or getting excited and inhaling air. Hello, depending on how old your dog is and wether he has a pace maker this can be issue. If your dog otherwise is acting like his normal self, then this may just be normal hiccup episodes. If the problem persists and you think it is affecting his quality of life, I would certainly have him evaluated by your veterinarian. Best of luck.
