My female dog has a movable breast lump. Is it serious or benign?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | 9 years and 5 months old

My female dog has a mass that is hard in her breast. I can put my fingers around it and move it around. Is this usually a good sign? I'm taking her to the vet tomorrow but freaking out here lol.

Having a mammary tumor is never good but if you can move it around then it will be easier to surgically remove it. There is no way to tell if it is benign or malignant just by feeling it. The vet will need to remove it and then send the mass for a histopathology. If she is not spayed there is a higher chance that the mass is malignant. Glad you are taking her to the vet tomorrow. Best wishes.
