My dog is tired and won't eat after SMZ for bloody diarrhea. Why?

Vet gave SMZ960 "1 tab twice daily" (960x2) bloody diarrhea. I obeyed but online vet sites say *once* daily. I stopped after 5days . Dog losing interest in finishing food (1st time ever) & losing breath while eating; as if food is not going down. 30 min later, eats more. Diarrhea improving, but after pooping, dog normally jogs home, but layed down as if eliminating wore him out. Last year, had same bloody diarrhea, same vet (don't know prescription), but none of these issues. Thank you. Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 7 years and 10 months old | 65 lbs

Hello, I'd recommend taking Monster in for a recheck with his vet. SMZ can be used both once or twice daily; the treatment timing is based on the condition and dosing used. Antibiotic courses that are not finished lead to bacterial resistance and worsening of the initial infection, so it may be that this is happening due to him not finishing his medications.
