Why is my horse suddenly lame with no visible injury or swelling?

Pet's info: Farm Animal | Horse | Female | unspayed | 1000 lbs

8 yr. old Aqha mare. My horse is lame on her back left leg. I’ve checked her leg and can find no swelling are warmth in her leg or joints. I’ve tested her foot and she doesn’t seem to have any sensitivity either. There are no rocks or bruises that I can see. When she walks she will plant it flatly but acts as though it’s very painful to put pressure on it. She was fine one day and lame the next. She has been this way for 2 days now. (She is always very sensitive on gravel)

I would still be very suspicious of a hoof abscess. I would recommend having her checked out by a vet to see what is going on. Some abscesses can be tricky to diagnose and they may not even react with hoof testers, but a good equine vet should be able to tell what is going on after a lameness exam.
