My cat is having seizures after flea drops. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 3 years and 11 months old | 8 lbs

We put flea drops on our cat earlier today and now my cat is having multiple strong seizures for the last 2 hrs. He also snuck outside for a little bit this evening, not sure if he got bitten that could be causing the seizures

I recommend to have Grover examined by the veterinarian right away. Pets can have seizures for many reasons including poisoning, a reaction to the flea medication, liver disease, electrolyte imbalance, infections, inner ear problems or epilepsy. He will need a physical exam and bloodwork to begin to narrow down and appropriately address the cause. Seizures are serious and are best addressed early. If it is safe to do so, you may wash Grover in dawn dish soap to remove the flea product but he still needs to be examined. Make sure to bring in the package of the flea product. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
