My cat has an eye infection. Should I use old drops or see a vet now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | 7 lbs

My cat seems to have an eye infection. It’s very watery, with yellow/green goop and redness. He’s holding it half shut. I put some Terramycin drops that I had leftover from his last eye infection. Should I take him to the emergency vet tonight, or continue to give him these drops?

You will have to use your best judgement on if Binx needs to see the vet tonight or if it can wait, since I am not able to evaluate the eye. If he has chronic eye infections, they may be viral, and the antibiotics may or may not be needed. Helping him keep it clean by using a warm wet washcloth until he sees the vet.
